We hired Nelson Construction Group because I felt that I would have a successful and co operative working relationship with them. The finished product is fabulous. Excellent suggestions and work arounds, design ideas and products were offered. They listened to all my concerns and dealt with each issue effectively, and to my satisfaction. I truly felt that Nelson Construction Group was on my side, and working in my best interest.

Nelson’s is a company made up of some pretty great people. They are great to work with, they know their trade and their sub trades are wonderful as well (plumbers, electricians, etc.). The work space was tidied up as much as possible at the end of every work day. When you undertake a renovation, be ready for anything and everything that may come up – and count on it that things will come up. You can depend on Nelson’s to handle all these little issues with professionalism. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend hiring Nelson Construction Group.

Nelson gave me the home I had always wanted

I was planning to move to another city, and had purchased another property that I had built to my specifications. My existing house was 23 years old and needed upgrading and repairs.

We are happy with Nelson Construction Group because they offered advice on what should and shouldn’t be done, and provided invaluable assistance in selection of various products needed.

All the staff was extremely professional. They were here when they said they would be, worked diligently, and completed all projects on schedule. They took the time to explain to me what they were doing and why. They were all very pleasant to deal with. In fact, I now not only consider Nelson Construction a valued and trustworthy supplier, but all the staff as friends.

When all the work was completed, I was so impressed and pleased with the results that I ended up staying and sold the other property. Nelson gave me the home I had always wanted.

I have since worked with them on other outdoor projects, with the same results – I couldn’t be happier!

I have a few more ideas of what I would like to add to my property, and I will definitely call Nelson Construction when the time comes.

I have already sung the praises of Nelson Construction to my friends and neighbours. Should anyone else ask my opinion, I would recommend them without any reservation!

Stone Wall Kitchen

Ages ago, an old stone barn was converted to a house. The previous owner tried to update the kitchen with sad results. The kitchen was claustrophobic. Solution: Open up two walls to offer a view into the living room. Seal the stone, design and build custom cabinets and scribe them to the stone wall, and finish the support column to transition nicely from the elegant living room to the more modern kitchen.

The project was challenging because the client had a fixed move in date in five weeks. At the demo stage, we realized that the house had a lot of the original knob and tube wiring, which meant that the house needed to be re-wired. Once that was done, we were able to concentrate on finishing the kitchen.

We wanted to keep the stone wall, which meant scribing the backs of the cabinets so they would fit against the stone. Also, we built in false-bottoms on the upper cabinets in order to install outlets for counter-top appliances.

Custom Maple Kitchen

This new, larger kitchen was part of a rear addition. The client chose clear maple with simple, clean lines. We were able to incorporate some great touches such as lots of pot and pan drawers, a large pantry for dry goods, a raised peninsula for the tall homeowners, a hidden range hood and a panel front for the built-in dishwasher. Basement with Media Room

We’re really happy with this basement finish project. There were many difficult angles. Notice the sound insulated media room. You can blast your favourite movie and not be heard upstairs. We hid the electrical panel behind a door, and we designed a staircase rail that comes off to facilitate moving big furniture up and down the stairs.

The porch on this modest Victorian house was sinking into the ground. We rebuilt the deck portion including cute new stairs, then sanded and refinished the existing columns, rails and tongue and groove ceiling to freshen it up.

Custom Home

This custom home in Downtown Guelph was finished just before Christmas 2009. Wherever possible, we used building materials that offered the best energy efficiency that our client could afford. We poured the footings with ‘Formadrain’ a system that combines the footing forms with the drainage system. We used Amvic insulated concrete forms to form the foundation. We cladded the exterior with Hardy planks in a gorgeous dark grey with white trim.
